2000 Recipient

Awo Nuuh and BCSF President Dr. Alexis (2000)

Awo Nuuh | B.Soc. Sci. University of Ottawa

August 1, 2000.
OTTAWA --Awo Nuuh was on the Woodroffe High School Honour Roll since her arrival in 1995. This was not surprising since she reports that her parents instilled a love of learning in her from her earliest childhood.

Still, her commitment to school and community projects always matched her outstanding academic achievement. As Co-Editor of “ The Wyvern”, she was the driving-force behind the school’s fourth-place finish in the Ottawa Citizen’s Yearbook Awards program in 1999.Her volunteer tutoring , participation on the school’s badminton and tennis teams and membership of the Black History Committee won the respect of her peers, as did her nomination to the Pinecrest Queensway Health and Community Services.

In addition, on her own initiative, she produced a series of articles related to the integration of immigrants into Canadian society and developed a pioneer newspaper on Diverse Youth growing.

No greater indication of the impact she made in her five years at Woodroffe is found than in the words of one of her teachers that “she is a pleasure to teach and her maturity and genuine caring is a fresh breath in today’s world.”
