What it means to win a BCSF bursary...
"It was my greatest incentive to volunteer work. I want my contribution to community to be my legacy to the community."

Biotel has dreamt about becoming a doctor for as long as she can remember. She began to prepare for this goal by maintaining an 85% average and her place on the school’s Honour Roll throughout her senior years at Notre Dame High School.
Other highlights during her high school career included her serving as Co-chair of Black History Month and attendance at peace conferences where she benefited from her exposure to mediation and conflict resolution training.
Along the way, she also found time for community work by volunteering at the Catholic Immigration Centre where she assisted new immigrants to become familiar with Canadian Society, participating in the United Way Education panel, encouraging youths in the Kids Help Phone program and assuming the role of Peer Support Team Leader for Child and Youth Friendly Ottawa.
Her subsequent nomination for a Spirit of the Capital Award for 2002 was a fitting recognition of her overall community involvement.
Biotel is now in Medical School the University of Ottawa! Congratulations! We are so proud of you!

Winning this scholarship will enable Tatiana, a graduate of École Secondaire Publique Louis-Riel, to realize her dream of attending university, one which she has had since she was fifteen years old. It will also be a worthwhile reward for her discipline, dedication and perseverance.
She demonstrated these qualities at school by her willingness to tutor students in difficulty, her participation in student radio, on the multicultural committee as well as in producing the school yearbook.
Her involvement in community work was equally impressive. It included her volunteering at the Children’s Hospital of Ontario and in the Donor Blood and Christmas Box Campaign.
